Li Guanshuai (b. 1997, Dongying, Shandong) obtained his BFA (2019) from the Department of Printmaking and MFA (2022) from the School of Plastic Arts at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He has also undertaken a residency there, and currently lives and works in Chongqing. Li’s work proceeds from a consciousness that rejects superficial softness, repeatedly seeking to express the process by which faith transforms a person’s life and will. The disorder and weakness of life, its complexity and exuberance, are all personified in his works through his own life and his responses to the world. He strives to use decisiveness and anti-embellishment to express the hidden meaning within life, believing that life’s vividness cannot be manifested through displays of skill or the assertion of beauty, but rather through a kind of concealment. And he sees this concealment not as an escape, but as a form of marginality and self exile. His works have been collected by the White Rabbit Collection, Guangdong Contemporary Art Foundation, Luo Zhongli Art Museum, Whale Art Museum, X Museum and other institutions.
