Zhang Wenqiang (b. 1995, Tianshui, Gansu) graduated from the Fifth Studio of the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2019, and currently lives and works in Beijing. Zhang’s works focus on the spiritual predicament of the modern individual, seeking to explore the relationships between people and their own emotions, memories and society. By deconstructing everyday images, he reveals the inner world of the individual, along with the loneliness and struggle in contemporary life. His works capture traces of memory, imagination and dreams. Through the use of blurring, the images lose direct recognizability and instead become carriers of emotional and psychological states. He freezes these flowing emotions into isolated moments, deliberately weakening specific details. Under strong contrast of light and shadow, figures and environments remain in a state of suspension, forming what may be described as a kind of “psychological landscape”. The emotional tension is intensified, producing a mysterious, solitary and uneasy atmosphere, which also carries a dreamlike sense of unreality. His works are held in the collections of X Museum.
His solo exhibitions include: “Ridicuious Nostalgia”, Keyi Gallery (Beijing,2024); “Return to the night”, Keyi Gallery (Hefei, 2023).The group exhibitions he participated in include: “MINUTIAE SED MAGNA”, Iris Art Museum (Suzhou, 2025); “The
time has come – Case studies of 22 Artists”, Keyi Gallery (Hefei, 2025), etc. Art Fairs include “ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair”, Art Fair (Shanghai, 2024); “Beijing Dangdai Art Fair,”, Art Fair (Beijing, 2024).
