Yang Yueqi’s solo exhibition CURTAIN marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in collaboration with Keyi Gallery. The exhibition presents dozens of works created by the artist over the past two years.
This exhibition constructs a visual revelation about technological civilization, collective memory, and social structure. The artist uses surreal techniques to juxtapose images such as UFO witnesses, interstellar debris, political shooting ranges, and toy world maps, weaving a contemporary fable – a silver figure in the wheat field looking up at the Shenzhou spacecraft, implying another possibility: whether technology can break away from the logic of capital and become a tool for collective liberation? The dialectical contrast between the decaying machinery in the forest and the thriving natural vitality reminds us that true progress may not lie in conquering the stars, but in rebuilding the connection between people and the land, and between people. Between the starship and the wheat field, we can still choose to stand on the side of the land.
Yang Yueqi breaks away from conventional logic and uses film montage style scene scheduling to build a narrative stage with multiple meanings on a large canvas. Through the precision of close-up shots, he captures the dynamic expressions and body language of characters, making each character a symbol carrier that carries the symptoms of the times. His works directly address the technological myths and spiritual dilemmas of contemporary people: we live in an era that is both promised by technology for the future and constantly deconstructed by reality. Between the lost starship and the silent wheat field, we are both witnesses and objects of scrutiny.
