Sun Yifei presented his solo project Ten Sniglets as part of SSSSTART’s Genealogy Study of Artists No. 13, marking the artist’s first solo exhibition at an art museum.
Presented in the form of an exhibition, “Ten Sniglets” brings together ten “Sun-style stories.” These stories resist simple verbal description or expression. Through images, their structures and plots, beginnings and endings are presented to viewers simultaneously. The English title, “Ten Sniglets”, speaks to this complex perceptual experience. The coined term “sniglet” emphasizes things that cannot be precisely articulated through words. It points to the “gaps in language” that emerge in communication between cultures and individuals—a space of thought and imagination that only images can fill. This, too, is a defining characteristic of Sun Yifei’s paintings.
