Genealagy Study of Artists Retrospective Exhibition Season One takes the form of a retrospective through individual case studies, tracing and examining the trajectories of 13+1 artists who have completed their participation in the Genealogy Study of Artists project. The exhibition aims to foster a cumulative, continuously expanding and evolving effect, allowing the project to grow and resonate over time. It not only reflects the artists’ creative freedom, imagination, and boundary-pushing practices, but also explores how their individual expressions continue to develop and ferment within a collective context, presenting a process of revisiting and reconsidering their works across the passage of time.
Sun Yifei’s recent practice has been inspired by the work of Jacques Lacan and Slavoj Žižek. His interests have begun to shift toward images and modes of practice that were once overlooked or deliberately avoided—those previously regarded as popular, official, impure, dead-ended, or non-painterly. By shifting his perspective, he reconsiders the remnants that were once discarded, as well as the repressed “specters” that have never entered the field of vision of “truth.”
