This exhibition foregrounds large-scale paintings, exploring memory as a central theme and examining how it serves as an important thread, an impression, and a source of inspiration in artistic creation.
The group exhibition focuses on the individual artistic practices of the participating artists: how they perceive, revisit, and imagine through memory, and how these experiences are ultimately translated onto the canvas through their distinctive painterly languages. This creative process parallels the way memories take shape in the mind. The formation of memories itself facilitates the brain’s storage and processing of information about the objective world, a process that continues to transform and evolve through different modes of thought. Today, memories are no longer derived solely from firsthand encounters with everyday life. They may also emerge from images encountered on screens, emotional impulses, dreams, art history, and a range of other sources. In contemporary painting, therefore, memory is not merely a static scene or isolated moment. It is also reflected in how artists manipulate images, whether through the incorporation of individual consciousness, rational construction, or the expression of emotion.
In terms of visual content, the exhibition also presents a shared sensibility, particularly in the ways artists employ contrasting colours to convey hallucinatory, emotionally charged energies and states of being. These works invite viewers to immerse themselves in memory and drift away from reality, finding solace or a means of escape, or perhaps arriving at moments of insight and transcendence.
