Luo Ran’s practice focuses on contemporary visual imagery and the underlying logic through which such imagery is generated. He approaches this attention and exploration as a game in which the artist can be both a participant and a creator. The pleasure lies in continually discovering and creating hidden, intricate Easter eggs. Within a context resembling uniform linear motion, he translates the ways objects are manipulated in contemporary virtual software into a working logic for painting, using the trajectories associated with different tools and their specific properties. In doing so, he re-edits the boundaries between different dimensions and explores rhythms, movements, relationships, boundaries, and orders that seem suspended in reality.

Zheng Mengqiang’s practice is largely rooted in emotions accumulated through his lived experiences, which serve as both a foundation and a point of departure for his work. He draws inspiration from personal memories and subjective perceptions, seeking to explore the poetic possibilities of painting. Although his initial ideas may stem from fragments of everyday life or cinematic and photographic imagery, he tempers these fleeting impulses and emotions through restraint and prolonged contemplation. Over time, he recomposes and distills the elements within the image, using the simplification of forms and the division of color fields to create abstract geometric compositions that give rise to a lucid yet unreal sense of figuration. His use and selection of color likewise involve extensive simplification and refinement. By softening contrasts between colors, he creates a palette that is almost monochromatic, evoking a more elusive and mysterious atmosphere. This restrained and sensitive visual quality lends his works a distinctly romantic realist sensibility.
